Winter hiking
Experience a fascinating snowy landscape
This is pure deceleration. The sun is shining, everything is glittering, you have time and you take it. Enjoy nature to the fullest on a winter or snowshoe hike between glacier, mountain and lake. Whether on a guided tour or on your own, you will experience the winter landscape here from its most beautiful side.
With or without snowshoes
Depends on the amount of snow and on the chosen hiking tour. When in winter the snow falls from the sky in masses and transforms the Pinzgau into a deep snow landscape, then you best strap snowshoes to your feet. Where in summer a multitude of well-known hiking trails crisscross the landscape, in winter the paths often have to be found first. Of course, the whole thing is different on the many cleared walking or winter hiking trails. There, the winter road clearance service ensures cleared conditions. Sturdy winter footwear with thick lining and a non-slip sole is still an advantage.
Pull off...
Around the Zeller See many beautiful winter hiking trails are waiting for you. Various promenades crisscross the villages around the lake and take you to the winter nature in no time. If you want to go higher and enjoy great views of the city and the lake, climb the sunny slopes around Enzianhütte on Ronachkopf or Mitterberg – you’ll have to find better panoramas of Zell am See and the Hohe Tauern.
On the Schmittenhöhe, take the cable car up the mountain and start your winter hike high up. Along the sunny promenade between the Hochzelleralm and the Sonnkogelbahn or around the Plettsaukopf reservoir. There you will experience breathtaking views over the valley and Lake Zell. Here you will find the prices for uphill & downhill rides to the Schmittenhöhe for winter hikers.
In Kaprun there are comfortable circular hiking trails in the Kapruner Moos, through the Filzmooswäldchen, along the Salzach and through beautiful further field paths. Spectacular and breathtakingly beautiful is also the ICE CAMP TRAIL on the Kitzsteinhorn. From mid-January to mid-April, the fascinating ICE CAMP awaits at the end of the trail – an igloo world made entirely of snow and ice. Here you can find the prices for the ascent & descent to the Kitzsteinhorn for non-skiers.
